Communications plays a key role supporting our work using the law to protect people and the planet. We
use a strategic approach to communications to influence decision-making and drive behaviour change.
This role will work to enhance the impact of some of our highest profile and most innovative
programmatic work.
The Global Communications Officer will sit within our impactful and collaborative external affairs function,
which includes communications, digital, political and campaigning specialists, alongside fundraising and
development.
As well as implementing effective and outcome-focused communications that help to deliver our
programmatic objectives, this role will also support our ongoing efforts to continually improve the
standard and effectiveness of communications work at ClientEarth. The successful candidate will be
expected to think creatively and use the full suite of communications tools to change behaviour and
influence decision makers.
Working Relationships
The Global Communications Officer will report to a Global Communications Lead, and have a key
relationship with a Communications Manager based in South East Asia. They will also have a strong
working relationship with key people from our legal programmatic teams that are working on topics such
as climate, forests, trade and corporate accountability. They will also build and cultivate external
relationships with journalists and like-minded organisations.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic communications and media work:
• Develop, implement and measure innovative communications to support the strategic objectives
of key programmatic work supported by the Global Communications Managers.
• Create impactful content and key messages that helps to engage and influence key decisionmakers.
• Coordinate the delivery of sustained, high-profile and positive communications across all
channels, working closely with the Digital team.
• Prepare staff for media and speaking opportunities.
• Prepare and support the preparation of news releases, articles, thought leadership, briefing
materials and statements on work
• Work with colleagues across communication to oversee and manage reactive and proactive
media engagement
• Help add value to the work of our partners in other countries by contributing to communications
plans and the delivery of those plans.
• Act as a trusted communications advisor to colleagues, ensuring that they make the most of
communications opportunities to enhance the impact of their work.
Relationship management
• Represent in relevant national and international coalitions as required, bringing our
expertise to the table and adding value to joint communications.
• Develop relationships to match the strategic needs of relevant programme teams, including with
journalists, partner organizations and others who can help us deliver our messages.
• Work with local groups and individuals to build effective joint communications.
Administration
• Ensure that relevant parts of media contacts database are kept up-to-date.
• Help with invoicing and other finance and non-finance administration tasks for the team.

Location
This is to be based in London or Brussels and may involve occasional travel in line with our
organisational Environmental Policy.
