The Harmon E. Broyles Scholarship Program-Virginia-Carolina

The Virginia-Carolina’s The Harmon E. Broyles Scholarship Program Foundation Trust has established a leadership based scholarship program to assist students who live in Virginia, North Carolina, or South Carolina and plan to enroll as a full-time undergraduate student in the Virginia Tech College of Engineering for the entire upcoming academic year.

The program is administered by Scholarship America, the nation’s largest designer and manager of scholarship and other education support programs for corporations, foundations, associations, and individuals. Sponsors determine eligibility for individual programs at their sole discretion, and Scholarship America’s evaluation team reviews eligible applications.

 Scholarship Requirements

an up-to-date, comprehensive grade transcript. Grade reports are not accepted. The student’s name must appear on transcripts.

  • Name of school Grades
  • Each course’s credit hours and the term in which it was taken are listed.

A copy of the first two pages of the most current IRS Form 1040 that was used for the application’s Financial Information section. Kindly remove all bank account details and social security numbers.

NOTE: You will need to upload a copy of your test score report or reports separately if you are giving SAT or ACT test results that are not on your high school transcript. Those scores are not necessary if you are uploading a transcript from college.

The deadline for submitting one online recommendation form on your behalf is May 26, 2025, at 5:00 p.m. Central Time.

Without the electronic submission of all necessary materials, your application is incomplete.

Scholarship Benefits and Awards 

There will be up to one (1) full-ride award given out.

The annual funds available will determine the number of awards and their amounts. The full Cost of Attendance (COA), including tuition, fees, books, supplies, housing, and board, is what awards are meant to pay. The cost of attendance as stated in each recipient’s financial aid award letter will be used to calculate award amounts.

Notification

Notification will be sent to all candidates in July.

Scholarship payments

On behalf of the Virginia-Carolina Scholarships Foundation Trust, Scholarship America handles scholarship disbursements. For each semester, payments are made in August and December.

Selection of Recipients

The following criteria are used to choose scholarship recipients:

  • Leadership qualities and involvement in school and community activities
  • Work experience and academic record
  • A list of goals and objectives for education and employment
  • Unusual familial or personal situations
  • A suggestion from the internet
  • Three pieces of writing

Recipients must prove they are in need of money. As part of the selection process, recipients will be required to submit a copy of their current semester or term’s Cost of Attendance (COA) and Student Aid Report (SAR), if available.

Students may reapply to the program each year they fulfill the eligibility conditions, but awards are not renewable. Previous grantees may be given preference.

Only undergraduate studies are eligible for awards.

Terms and condition of scholarship selection criteria 

  • Reside in South Carolina, North Carolina, or Virginia.
  • be seniors in high school, recent grads, or enrolled in college as undergraduates.
  • Make plans to attend Virginia Tech for the whole forthcoming academic year as a full-time student.
  • be working toward a Virginia Tech College of Engineering degree.
  • possess a minimum grade point average (or its equivalent) of 2.5 on a 4.0 scale.
  • Be a leader in a team or group that is well-known and identifiable.

Members of the selection committee, trustees, and their close relatives are not permitted to apply.
