The German Chamber of Industry and Commerce (DIHK) is part of the network of 79 Chambers of Industry and Commerce (IHKs) nationwide and the worldwide network of German Chambers of Commerce Abroad (AHKs) with locations in over 90 countries. As an umbrella organization, the DIHK represents the interests of German industry vis-à-vis decision-makers in federal politics and European institutions.

What tasks await you?

  • As a member of the DIHK office in Brussels and the DIHK continuing education department in Berlin, you are the first point of contact for questions about EU education and employment policy and all questions relating to securing skilled workers in the EU. In regular coordination with the relevant specialist colleagues in the DIHK Berlin, you represent the interests of the IHK organization and its member companies to the decision-makers at the European level, but also to the partners in the relevant federal ministries and other institutions involved in EU education and employment policy.
  • They identify educational and employment policy trends as well as political initiatives at the EU level to secure skilled workers at an early stage and organize the opinion-forming process in the IHK organization in coordination with the IHKs and the DIHK departments involved.
  • For your colleagues at DIHK Berlin, you are the informational “bridgehead” for the latest developments in education and employment policy and trends in securing skilled workers at the EU level. You ensure the flow of information to the responsible specialist departments at DIHK Berlin and systematically expand relevant networks in Brussels.
  • Your responsibilities also include drafting opinions, position papers, and newsletters as well as press releases on aspects of European education policy.
  • You are an important contact at the DIHK for the specialist colleagues from the European chamber organizations who are committed to the topic of education and securing skilled workers. You maintain this network and actively shape the educational policy work of the European Chamber umbrella organization Euro Eurochambres.
  •  They organize events and give lectures on current EU education or employment policy issues in order to facilitate discourse and to make the positioning and tasks of the DIHK visible in both internal and external discussions.

​​​What should you bring with you?

  • A higher vocational qualification or a completed university degree.
  • You already have a network of political contacts in Brussels and possibly also at the federal level, or you are excited by the idea of ​​quickly building up and continuously expanding this network.
  • Knowing how to write texts that are appropriate for the target audience and how to present complex educational and employment policy issues in a way that is easy to understand. You can also give presentations to small and large groups.
  • You have excellent English and German language skills, and ideally, knowledge of another foreign language such as French.
  • A structured and conscientious way of working, as well as analytical thinking, are among your strengths.
  • You are characterized by very independent, self-responsible, and at the same time, team-oriented work.
  • A high level of service orientation is a given for you.
  • Professional experience in the field of vocational training or in aspects of securing skilled workers is helpful.
  • Experience in chambers, associations, or in a business environment, as well as in cooperation with ministries at the federal or state level, is an advantage.
  • You are prepared for occasional business trips, including regular stays at the DIHK in Berlin.
