Charles W. Frees, Jr. Scholarship Program for U.S. Citizens

Charles W. Frees, Jr. Scholarship Fund has established a scholarship program to assist children of employees who plan to continue their education in college or vocational school programs.

The program is administered by Scholarship America, the nation’s largest designer and manager of scholarships and other education support programs for corporations, foundations, associations, and individuals. Eligibility for individual programs is determined at the sole discretion of the sponsor, and eligible applications are reviewed by Scholarship America’s evaluation team.

Scholarship Requirements

As part of your application, you must upload the following:

  • A current, complete transcript of grades. Grade reports are not accepted. Transcripts must display:
    • Student name
    • School name
    • Grades
    • Credit hours for each course and term in which each course was taken.

Eligibility

Applicants to the Charles W. Frees, Jr. Scholarship Program must:

  • be a U.S. Citizen
  • be male high school seniors or graduates from a high school in the Greater St. Louis area
    • Missouri:
      • St. Louis County, St. Charles County, Lincoln County, Jefferson County, Franklin County, Warren County
    • Illinois:
      • Madison County, Clinton County, Jersey County, St. Clair County, Monroe County
  • plan to enroll in a full-time undergraduate course of study at an accredited two-year or four-year college, university, or vocational school

Selection of Recipients

Scholarship recipients are selected on the basis of:

  • Academic record
  • Demonstrated leadership and participation in school and community activities
  • Work experience
  • A statement of goals and aspirations
  • Unusual personal or family circumstances
  • An online recommendation

Financial need will be considered. Recipients must demonstrate need.

Selection of recipients is made by Scholarship America. In no instance does any officer or employee of Charles W. Frees, Jr. Scholarship Fund play a part in the selection. Not all applicants to the program will be selected as recipients. All applicants agree to accept the decision as final.

Benefits and Awards of Scholarship 

Awards may range from $1,500 to $5,000. The award amount and number of awards granted is based on the funds available and amount of eligible applications received each year.

Awards are one-time only. Past recipients may not reapply.

Awards are for undergraduate study only and may be used for any education-related expenses.

Notification

  1. All applicants will be notified in late May.
  2. If you are providing SAT or ACT test scores, and those scores are not listed on your high school transcript, you will need to upload a copy of your test score report(s) separately. If you are uploading a college transcript, those scores are not required.
  3. One online recommendation form must be submitted on your behalf no later than April 16, 2025 3:00 pm Central Time.
  4. Your application is not complete unless all required materials are submitted electronically.
  5. Scholarship America processes scholarship payments on behalf of Charles W. Frees, Jr. Scholarship Fund. Payment is made in August.
